Two individuals have been detained by Enugu State Police Command agents on suspicion of being involved in the state’s Nkanu East Local Government Area narcotics trafficking.
During separate intelligence-led operations, the command also seized quantities of materials thought to be variations of Cannabis sativa, often known as Indian hemp.
In a statement provided to The PUNCH on Friday, state police public relations officer SP Daniel Ndukwe confirmed the arrests.
The actions were a part of the command’s ongoing aggressive policing and crackdown on criminal activity throughout the state, according to Ndukwe.
According to the police spokesperson, on May 21, 2026, at around 6:25 a.m., agents from the Agbani Area Command’s Surveillance Team stormed a well-known hideout at Umuiba Nara in Nkanu East LGA, resulting in the arrest of 35-year-old Ani James.
“The suspect allegedly confessed to engaging in the illicit buying and selling of ‘Loud,’ ‘Colos,’ and other variants of Cannabis sativa after being questioned,” Ndukwe stated. He was found to have several sachets and wrappers that contained the alleged illegal narcotics.
In a related incident, the agents captured 50-year-old Edeh Ikechukwu at Isigwe Ugbawka, also in Nkanu East LGA, on May 16, 2026, at around 7:30 a.m., based on actionable intelligence.
The suspect was found to have large amounts of weeds that were thought to be Cannabis sativa.
The PPRO continued, “The suspect confessed to being involved in the illicit drug trade for the past five years.”
Ndukwe added that both instances were still being investigated and that the suspects will be charged after the investigations were finished.
The command’s determination to continue intelligence-driven operations against criminal elements and narcotics syndicates in the state was reaffirmed by CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, the state commissioner of police.
In order to help rid the state of criminal elements, the CP advised citizens to continue abiding by the law and to regularly provide the police with reliable and timely information.
