Officials reported that a magnitude 7.8 earthquake that occurred on Monday in Turkey and Syria resulted in more than 34,000 fatalities and tens of thousands of injuries.

The latest in a string of heartbreaking success stories as rescuers in Turkey continue their search for survivors is a 10-year-old girl who was recovered after spending 147 hours under the wreckage.
United Hatzalah, an Israeli search and rescue organization, is departing Turkey after six days owing to a “serious security threat.”

The White Helmets volunteer group reported that rescue efforts in northwest Syria’s rebel-held territories are over. A protracted civil war there has hindered relief efforts.
