The planned trip was announced on Wednesday by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, in an official statement from the State House.
According to the Presidency, the visit will provide Tinubu with an opportunity for spiritual reflection and devotion, as he seeks Allah’s guidance and blessings for Nigeria and its citizens.
While in Makkah, the President is expected to perform the religious rites associated with Umrah, a pilgrimage that can be undertaken at different times of the year, unlike the annual Hajj.
Before leaving Abuja, the President is expected to commission equipment acquired by the Nigerian Air Force to strengthen its operational capabilities.
The commissioning ceremony is scheduled to take place at the Presidential Wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.
The Presidency did not provide further details about the equipment or its planned deployment.
Tinubu is expected to return to Nigeria next week after completing the spiritual exercise. However, the Presidency has not announced a specific date for his return.
The visit comes as Nigerians continue to look to the Federal Government for progress on security, economic challenges and national development.
According to the Presidency, the President’s prayers in Makkah will focus on peace, unity, stability and the continued progress of the country.
