The Mexican government has officially approved Reno Omokri’s appointment as Nigeria’s ambassador to Mexico following an eight-month wait. Omokri shared this significant development in a post on the social media platform X on October 20. The formal approval was presented by José Manuel Briseño Flores, the chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Mexico in Abuja, to Babagana Wakil, the director of protocol at Nigeria’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In his announcement, Omokri expressed gratitude, stating, “To God be the glory,” as he received the agrément from the Government of the United Mexican States, which signifies official acceptance of his appointment.

The approval follows the early March decision by President Bola Tinubu, who sanctioned the posting of 65 ambassador-designates and high commissioners to various countries, with Omokri specifically designated for Mexico. However, his deployment was delayed due to the Mexican government initially withholding the necessary formal diplomatic consent required to finalize the appointment. This recent approval thus effectively resolves the prolonged delay surrounding Omokri’s intended posting, which had been pending since the announcement by President Tinubu earlier in the year.
