This incident occurred on Sunday in the Mosco area of Ekpoma and was reported to have taken place shortly after Uwuigbe engaged the services of Jacob. According to reports, he checked into the hotel with her and subsequently requested her to purchase water. Upon her return, she discovered him unresponsive in the room.

The Edo State Police Command confirmed the situation, providing details through their spokesperson, Eno Ikoedem. She stated that authorities received a report on October 5, 2026, regarding the incident. In connection with Uwuigbe’s death, three individuals—including the hotel owner, the manager, and Jacob—have been arrested. The police are continuing their investigation while the body of Uwuigbe has been sent to the Oriaifo Memorial Hospital mortuary for further examination.

In the aftermath of the event, Otunba Mike Ade Aladenika, the university’s Public Relations Officer, acknowledged Uwuigbe’s affiliation with the institution. However, he clarified that the incident occurred outside of the university’s jurisdiction, emphasizing that Uwuigbe’s private life activities do not reflect the institution as the sex worker involved is not a student of Ambrose Alli University. The university’s stance indicates a distance from the circumstances surrounding Uwuigbe’s death, framing it as a personal matter separate from his professional responsibilities.
