his action was taken due to alleged violations of the state’s transport regulations. CSP Adetayo Akerele, the Chairman of the Taskforce, shared this information through a statement from the agency’s spokesperson, Mr. Abdulraheem Gbadeyan, on Tuesday in Lagos.

The enforcement operation occurred on Monday across several locations on Lagos Island, including major areas such as CMS Bus Stop, Obalende, Osborne Roundabout, Abraham Adesanya Road, Lekki-Ajah Expressway, and the Lagos Coastal Road. The primary goal of the operation was to curb illegal commercial motorcycle activities that pose a nuisance and security risk. Akerele noted that the operators were found navigating restricted routes, adversely affecting motorists and other road users.

In the course of the operation, the 66 motorcycles were seized, and Akerele reported a restoration of normalcy in the affected regions. He highlighted the agency’s dedication to employing intelligence gathering and tactical initiatives aimed at eradicating illegal okada operations on restricted highways, bridges, and other prohibited areas throughout Lagos State. Despite facing challenges from defiant operators who attempt to avoid enforcement measures, Akerele expressed confidence in the agency’s intelligence-driven methods, which he asserted would make it more challenging for these operators to engage in illegal activities.

Furthermore, Akerele issued a warning that future enforcement operations will not only focus on illegal motorcycle operators but also on passengers who might be found violating transport laws. He emphasized that all motorcycles that are impounded would be forfeited to the Lagos State Government through legal proceedings, in accordance with the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law, 2018. The Chairman reiterated the agency’s commitment to maintaining these enforcement operations until total compliance is achieved across the state.
