This investor group also features Facebook cofounder Eduardo Saverin. Sky News revealed that the consortium is led by Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal and a former shareholder in Queens Park Rangers. An official announcement regarding the deal from Liverpool’s current owner, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), could come as soon as this week.
This potential investment would value the club at around 4.4 billion pounds ($5.9 billion), marking it as one of the highest valuations in football history. FSG, which purchased Liverpool in 2010, has been open to external investments while maintaining control over the club. This deal would reflect the significant appreciation in Liverpool’s value during FSG’s 16-year tenure.
Neither Liverpool nor FSG has commented on the reports. Jeff Bezos, aged 62, is among the world’s wealthiest individuals, with Forbes estimating his net worth over $280 billion. In contrast, Eduardo Saverin’s wealth is approximately $33 billion. Previously, Bezos had considered bids for NFL teams like the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Commanders but opted not to pursue those opportunities.
Liverpool, who clinched the Premier League title in 2025, is undergrowing a transitional phase following the exits of manager Arne Slot and star forward Mohamed Salah. Additionally, Michael Edwards, noted for his crucial role in assembling the team that secured Liverpool’s first league title in three decades in 2020, departed from his position as chief executive officer of football at FSG in July.
