Ahead of the 2027 general elections, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria (PFN) publicly opposes the All Progressives Congress’s (APC) adoption of a Muslim-Muslim ticket for the presidential election, as both President Bola Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shetimma are Muslims. The PFN emphasizes that Nigeria is a multi-religious and multi-ethnic nation, and the leadership should reflect this diversity to foster national unity. In a statement from their National Executive Council (NEC), the PFN reiterated its dedication to justice, equity, and the rule of law, asserting that inclusive governance is essential for mutual trust among citizens.

Moreover, the PFN expressed strong opposition to any proposed laws restricting Christian preaching, arguing such regulations contradict the rights outlined in the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, particularly concerning freedom of religion and expression. The organization called for lawful regulations that maintain public order without infringing on religious freedoms or fundamental human rights.

The PFN urged the government to ensure that legislation does not discriminate against any religious community and appealed to Christians to remain peaceful, law-abiding, and prayerful while responsibly exercising their rights. They encouraged constructive dialogue among government officials, religious leaders, and civil society to address potential threats to national cohesion. The PFN views Nigeria’s diversity as a valuable asset demanding nurturing rather than division, reaffirming its commitment to pray for a peaceful, just, and prosperous Nigeria where all citizens enjoy equal protection under the law.
