Five years after signing a £75 million contract and months after winning a Europa League winner’s medal at Villa Park, Jadon Sancho has formally left Manchester United as a free agent.

Sancho, Tyrell Malacia, and Casemiro will all depart Manchester United when their contracts expire at the end of this month, the club has confirmed.

Sancho, who scored 12 goals and provided six assists in just 83 games for United, is still their fourth-most expensive acquisition to date.

He has only played for United once since August 2023, in the 2024 Community Shield, and has spent the previous two and a half seasons on loan at Borussia Dortmund, Chelsea, and finally Aston Villa.

Prior to a falling out with former manager Erik ten Hag, he played his final Premier League match for United nearly three years ago.

Sancho responded by claiming he was being used as a scapegoat after the Dutchman pulled him from the squad for a match against Arsenal after criticizing his training efforts. Before Sancho returned to Dortmund in January 2024, Ten Hag excluded him from first-team training because neither of them gave in.

In the last three years, he has participated in three European finals with three different teams: Dortmund in the Champions League, Chelsea in the Conference League, and Villa in the Conference League, where he has won the last two.

Sancho only started nine league games while playing for Unai Emery, therefore Chelsea paid a £5 million penalty clause in their loan agreement to avoid purchasing him, and Villa is not anticipated to purchase him.

For the third time this summer, Dortmund has expressed interest in acquiring Sancho.

Four years after signing from Real Madrid for £63 million, Casemiro had already announced his exit. The 34-year-old was a key member of the United side that placed third this season, scoring 26 goals in 160 games.
