A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Samuel Ajose, has announced his withdrawal from the Lagos State governorship race to support Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat. During a speech to his supporters, Ajose articulated that his decision, though challenging, was made with the goal of fostering unity and collective progress for the community. He emphasized the importance of prioritizing the overall interests of the people, stating, “Everything that everybody will benefit from… you are still going to benefit because you have made sure that you took care of the interests of everybody.”

Ajose confirmed that he would actively support Hamzat’s campaign, committing to take a significant role within the campaign’s structure. This decision follows the recent withdrawal of another former gubernatorial candidate, Abdul-Azeez Adediran (Jandor), who also endorsed Hamzat after receiving backing from President Bola Tinubu and APC leaders. Jandor referred to his withdrawal as a sacrifice for party cohesion, underscoring his loyalty to the APC leadership.

Ajose’s support for Hamzat reflects a strategic move within the party, aimed at consolidating efforts for the upcoming election and enhancing party unity in Lagos State.
