Manchester United sacked head coach Ruben Amorim.

Ruben Amorim has been dismissed as the manager of Manchester United just 14 months into his tenure, as announced by the Premier League club on Monday. This decision follows Amorim's controversial remarks made after a 1-1 draw with Leeds, where he expressed uncertainty about his position.

Despite Manchester United’s current sixth place in the Premier League, the club’s leadership deemed it necessary to make a managerial change to enhance the team’s chances in the league, which has seen a series of disappointing seasons culminating in their lowest finish during the Premier League era last year.

Amorim’s removal marks the sixth managerial change at Manchester United since legendary manager Alex Ferguson retired in 2013. During his short tenure, Amorim presided over several unwanted records, including finishing 15th in the Premier League, the most losses in a single season, and achieving the lowest points total in the club’s history. In light of these performance metrics, he had previously issued an apology to fans, labeling the season as “disastrous.”

As the club seeks to regroup, youth coach Darren Fletcher has been appointed to lead the team for their upcoming match against Burnley. The situation reflects ongoing challenges within Manchester United as they struggle to maintain their historic status in English football.

“I came here to be the manager of Manchester United, not to be the coach of Manchester United,” he said. “And that is clear.”

“I’m not going to quit. I will do my job until another guy is coming here to replace me.”
