In response to claims made by the US government regarding attacks on Christians in Nigeria and former US President Donald Trump’s threat of potential military intervention, Lawal made the comments in an interview on Channels Television. He maintained that such involvement should not be criticized because it is consistent with biblical ideas of Christian solidarity.

He stated that the Nigerian government must be in charge of protecting its residents and ensuring their wellbeing, adding that if this isn’t done, impacted groups may look for assistance abroad.

“The government ought to reassure us that they can provide us with the prosperity and peace we want.” They cannot criticize any segment of society that chooses to go for assistance elsewhere if they are unable to accomplish that, he stated.

The former SGF clarified that Christian teachings are the foundation for safeguarding fellow believers. He claims that regardless of origin or culture, believers have an obligation to defend one another under the concept of “Christian brotherhood.”

The Bible teaches us to take care of our brethren. It is biblical for American Christians to choose to help Nigerian Christians in need. If Christians believe they are incapable of defending themselves, they have the right to do so, he stated.  Lawal also took issue with the government’s propensity to brush off worries about insecurity. He claimed that instead of being taken seriously, those who voice concerns are frequently publicly attacked.

“The government sends people to insult you and say all kinds of things when you speak with them. If the government secures us, we can work with them to warn the Americans not to enter our territory,” he stated.
