Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja sentenced the 19-year-old teacher to life in prison for raping his nine-year-old student.

Justice M. Osho–Adebiyi of the Federal Capital Territory High Court in Abuja handed the ruling, according to a statement released on X on Saturday by NAPTIP’s National Press Officer, Vincent Adekoye.
According to the agency, on March 19, 2025, after school hours, the convict—who worked at a private school in the Kwali Area Council—lured the victim and sexually assaulted him through the anus.

“The victim’s class teacher was the convict.” He sent another student to call the victim from their home on March 19, 2025, after school. According to a portion of the statement, “He then took the victim down the street where he lived and raped the male victim through the anus.”
According to the agency, the culprit was apprehended and charged when the victim told his mother about the assault.
On October 29, 2025, Abbass was found guilty of two charges of rape and sexual abuse under Section 2 of the Violence Against Persons (Prohibition) Act, 2015, which carries a life sentence.

In response to the ruling, NAPTIP Director-General Binta Adamu Bello praised partners and the judiciary for helping to secure the conviction.

“This is a landmark judgment that carries the commensurate punishment for the offender,” she declared. His name will be clearly displayed in our Sex Offenders Register, and this will act as a deterrence.

“I would like to state that our renewed commitment and resolve to address the prevalence of domestic violence, rape, and other types of sexual abuse in the country is demonstrated by the prompt investigation and arraignment of the convict.

Bello reiterated the Nigerian Police’s dedication to combating rape and other kinds of sexual violence throughout the nation and commended the agency for its cooperation.

On June 19, 2025, it was reported that Pascal Ofomata, a 34-year-old teacher at St. Christopher’s Junior Seminary in Onitsha, had been found guilty of defiling his 11-year-old male JSS 1 student and given a 12-year prison sentence. A Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Court in Awka, Anambra State, heard the case under the direction of Justice Peace Otti.
