When asked about being called as a witness by Kanu during his monthly media briefing on Friday, Wike said this.
The statement from the minister comes after Kanu filed a motion before the Federal High Court in Abuja on Tuesday, stating that he would present his defense on Friday.
The IPOB leader also revealed that he would call 23 witnesses, including the former Chief of Army Staff Gen. Tukur Buratai (retd), the FCT Minister, and former Defense Minister Gen. Theophilus Danjuma (retd).
Speaking during the discussion, Wike said he had not received any court-issued paperwork and that he had not requested to be named as a witness.
He went on to say that if the court subpoenaed him, he would have to come in to testify, adding that he couldn’t become a witness by reading newspaper articles.
You should question Nnamdi Kanu about why he listed me if you meet him. You are the one claiming that; I didn’t approach him to express my desire to testify. Ask him, if you see him, why Wike was included as one of your witnesses.
“Reading a newspaper does not make you a witness. No one has subpoenaed me or served me with process.
As a result, I started to panic when I noticed Wike was on the list. No, that is not what you do. I must obey the court and show up if I am served or subpoenaed to testify or provide evidence,” he stated.
