CWCL: Obaseki, NWFL praise Edo Queens for their trip to the finals

Edo Queens, Nigeria's female football team, qualified for the CAF Champions League WAFU B Qualifier semifinals after defeating Omnisport Etincelle 1-0 in their final Group B match.

They went into the next round with a sense of accomplishment after winning all three of their group matches, scoring eight goals and giving up none.

“I sincerely congratulate our darling ladies, Edo Queens, for their fantastic performance in the CAF Champions League WAFU B Qualifier,” stated Obaseki. “They defeated Omnisport Etincelle of Burkina Faso 1-0 to secure a spot in the competition’s semifinals.”

In the group round of the competition, he continued, “I celebrate your exploits and stellar performance, where you secured maximum points from all three matches, making our dear state and country proud.” You have proven your strength and extraordinary talent on the continental stage once more, and as the Nigerian Women’s Premier League (NWPL) champions, we are sure you will take home the trophy.

“The people and government of Edo State are behind you as you continue on your incredible run at the WAFU Zone B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers. Please accept my sincere congrats.

Nkechi Obi, the NWFL Chairperson, meanwhile, also gave the squad praise for their exceptional performance.

“I would like to congratulate the Edo Queens for making it to the semifinals on behalf of the NWFL board. “I am pleased with their performance thus far,” said Obi.

“Throughout this competition, they have demonstrated genuine character and tenacity. Their successful run also validates their victory for the domestic season crown. As they advance, I have no doubt that they will continue to inspire pride in both Nigeria and the NWFL.

In the semi-finals on Tuesday at Stade De La Paix in Bouake, the Nigerian Women’s Premier League champions will take against Inter D’Abidjan, the host nation, with the goal of winning and representing their zone in November at the CAF Women’s Champions League finals.
