Nigerian-eligible defender Idris Fabiyi is one of the young players Manchester United has awarded first-year scholarship contracts to as part of their most recent academy scholarship intake.

According to Premier League regulations, football players under the age of 17 must start the season on scholarship terms before being entitled to sign professional contracts after turning 17. This represents a significant milestone in the development of academy players in England.

Fabiyi is one of 15 players in this year’s intake, joining a highly regarded group that also includes Jacey Carrick, the son of former United midfielder and coach Michael Carrick, and Kai Rooney, the son of Manchester United great Wayne Rooney.

The defender recently played for Manchester United in the SuperCup NI youth competition in Northern Ireland after making steady progress through the club’s junior system. Additionally, he contributed to the academy team’s victory in the Under-15 Premier League Floodlit Cup.

The scholarship group will go to Germany for a Professional growth Phase training camp as part of their next stage of growth.

Fabiyi is qualified to represent Nigeria through his parents even though he was born in England. Additionally, he is eligible for England, therefore at the international level, he may select either country.

The young man has maintained obvious ties to his Nigerian heritage, following Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen and the Nigeria Football Federation on social media, even if he has not yet decided on his international future.

Fabiyi will now try to further his development at one of the most prosperous academies in England, which has recently produced a number of first-team talents, such as Marcus Rashford and Kobbie Mainoo.
