Daniel made the call on Thursday during an appearance on TVC’s Beyond The Headlines, where he urged the governor to publicly defend his position on issues surrounding the Ogun East Senatorial seat.
The senator stated that if Abiodun refuses to honour the invitation, he would interpret it as an attempt to avoid accountability.
“This is an open challenge. If he refuses to appear, then I will believe he ran away from the debate,” Daniel said during the interview.
He also appealed to the programme host to arrange a joint appearance for both political figures as soon as possible.
“You would not be doing justice to this programme if you fail to bring both of us together. Let us have the conversation immediately,” he added.
Responding, the presenter disclosed that the show would formally invite Governor Abiodun and confirmed that a seat had already been reserved for him on the programme.
The latest development follows weeks of political disagreement between the two APC leaders over the Ogun East Senatorial ticket ahead of the 2027 elections.
In April 2026, some APC stakeholders in the district reportedly endorsed Governor Abiodun as their preferred candidate for the Senate seat — a move Daniel strongly opposed.
The former governor insisted that the party should allow a transparent primary election process, accusing some individuals of attempting to impose candidates.
During the interview, Daniel also warned the governor that his tenure in office was gradually coming to an end.
“Your Excellency, very soon you will become a former governor. I once warned you about certain people around you and told you clearly that they could damage your administration,” he stated.
He further argued that politics comes with boundaries that should never be crossed.
“There are limits in politics. Some lines should never be crossed,” Daniel said.
As of the time this report was filed by Naija Street Matters, neither the Ogun State Government nor Governor Abiodun’s media team had officially reacted to the challenge.
Governor Abiodun is currently serving his second and final term in office and cannot contest again for governor under the constitution.
With the end of his administration approaching, attention has increasingly shifted toward the Ogun East Senatorial seat as his likely political destination in 2027.
Daniel, who currently occupies the seat, believes the governor’s interest in the position amounts to political betrayal, claiming he played a major role in Abiodun’s emergence as governor.
