Nigeria midfielder Frank Onyeka ended his long goal drought at club level as Coventry City F.C. claimed a thrilling 3–2 win over Derby County F.C. on Friday night, further solidifying their position at the summit of the Championship table.
Onyeka gave Coventry an early advantage in the 12th minute, reacting quickly to a pass inside the penalty area before striking the ball first time. His effort sailed over the goalkeeper and dipped into the far top corner, sending supporters at the Coventry Building Society Arena into celebration.
The goal marked his first for Coventry and his first club goal since March 13, 2024, when he found the net for Brentford F.C. against Sheffield United F.C. in a Premier League fixture.
Derby County fought back before halftime, with Ben Brereton Díaz scoring twice to put the visitors ahead. However, Coventry responded strongly after the break, producing a comeback performance to secure all three points in an intense and entertaining encounter.
