Alhaji Mouktar Lugga, the chief of staff’s convoy to the governor of Zamfara State, was attacked by gunmen who seemed to be bandits on the Funtua–Gusau route.

On Thursday, April 2, 2026, at around 6:16 p.m., Lugga was returning to Gusau from an official engagement when the incident happened close to Kucheri hamlet.

The attackers reportedly came from both sides of the road and started shooting at the car carrying the chief of staff, his driver, and two other people.

Another assailant apparently tried to shoot at close range but the weapon failed to release, and a bullet reportedly penetrated the car’s glass and just missed the driver.

The driver was able to guide the car out of the ambush in spite of the attack, and everyone inside escaped unharmed.
