Atiku Abubakar, the former vice president, has rejected rumors that he is leaving active politics, calling them a “calculated lie” intended to sabotage the African Democratic Congress’s (ADC) increasing momentum.
Phrank Shaibu, Atiku’s Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication, denied claims in a statement on Tuesday that Waziri Adamawa had met with ADC stakeholders to declare he was “stepping aside.”
Shaibu clarified that although Atiku recently met with Adamawa State stakeholders, neither a national meeting nor a decision to leave politics had taken place.

Shaibu declared, “A matter as serious and consequential as stepping away from active politics is not, and will never be communicated through anonymous leaks, street-corner gossip, or faceless propaganda.”

The rumors, according to Shaibu, were a “coordinated disinformation campaign” brought on by the changing political climate in the run-up to the 2027 elections.

He said that Atiku’s role as a “center of gravity” for national political realignments is the reason behind the attacks.

In physics, gravity is seen rather than declared. His Excellency has become the focal point of the developing 2027 political landscape by the power of consistency, national reach, and an unflinching dedication to coalition building,” he stated.

The “false narrative,” according to Atiku’s team, is the result of a “desperate establishment” that is uneasy about a growing consensus that aims to save Nigeria from “drift, dysfunction, and democratic erosion.”

The statement urged supporters and ADC members to hold fast, stating that “the determination of Nigerians far outweighs the fear of those who have failed them” and that propaganda would not stop the current movement.
