Victor Osimhen is making history. The Nigerian striker has now scored more UEFA Champions League goals than his boyhood hero, Didier Drogba, solidifying his place among Africa’s elite forwards.

Osimhen opened the scoring for Galatasaray in Wednesday night’s 3-2 loss at Juventus Stadium, a result that was enough for the Turkish side to advance to the Round of 16 on a 7-5 aggregate. That goal was his 16th in the competition, one ahead of Drogba’s record of 15, putting him second on the all-time African scorers list.

Only Guinea’s Serhou Guirassy, currently with Borussia Dortmund, has more goals among African players, with 18.

Osimhen’s rise at Galatasaray has been hard to ignore. His blend of speed, strength, and finishing has turned heads across Europe, drawing both admiration and transfer speculation. Fans and pundits alike are watching closely, as he continues to carve out a name for himself on the continent’s biggest stage.

With the Champions League knockout rounds just beginning, Osimhen looks set to keep rewriting the record books and inspiring a new generation of African strikers.
