Nigeria’s football authorities have moved to calm speculation about the future of Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle, making it clear that he is expected to remain in charge until the end of his contract.

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau said Chelle still has one year left on his deal and remains focused on his work with the national team.

“We still have a one-year contract with Eric, and no matter what, he has to wait until his contract expires,” Gusau said, according to SoccerNet. “We don’t want to bring distraction to him because we understand that he enjoys working with Nigeria.”

The reassurance comes amid reports that the 44-year-old coach has drawn interest from other teams following the Super Eagles’ strong showing at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Gusau downplayed suggestions that money would determine Chelle’s next move, instead pointing to the coach’s professional goals.

“It’s not about the money,” he said. “It’s about whether he can achieve what he wants to achieve in his career.”

Chelle’s time in charge has sparked renewed belief around the national team, and the federation appears keen to maintain continuity as Nigeria prepares for upcoming international fixtures, including key World Cup qualifiers.
