In response to Britain and other European nations rejecting his claims to Greenland, Trump has threatened to impose tariffs.
Kemi Badenoch, the head of the opposition Conservative Party, also made fun of Starmer in parliament for Trump’s criticism of his government’s Chagos Islands agreement.

Under the terms of the Chagos agreement, Britain will pay to lease the US-UK military facility there for a century and give the archipelago, which is located some 2,000 kilometers (1,200 miles) northeast of Mauritius, to its former colony.

On social media on Tuesday, Trump denounced it as “great stupidity.”

“The words from President Trump were expressly intended to put pressure on me to yield on my principles,” Starmer told MPs in response to the criticism. He used the exact same sentence to describe Greenland and Chagos. That was his intention.

Additionally, the future of Greenland is a binary issue with tangible repercussions that is currently dividing the world. My stance on Greenland’s future has been unambiguous and constant. Only Greenland and the Kingdom of Denmark have a future, he declared.
