On Tuesday, August 13, 2024, the victim, identified as 15-year-old Gbadamosi Joshua, was brutally murdered on his farm near Ifira-Akoko.
The farmer’s death made it the second horrific tragedy in Akoko in the last two weeks.
The latest incidence was confirmed by SP Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanya, the spokesman for the state Police Command. He stated that Adamu Farouk, a 15-year-old suspected killer, has been taken into custody.
The man, who lived in Odoro Quarters, Ifira-Akoko, was reportedly hacked to death on his farm at Ogudu Farm Settlement, according to sources.
Nobody was able to identify the murderer when his body was discovered on his property, however there were rumors that herdsmen were responsible for his death.
After hearing of the occurrence, a group of Isua Akoko police officers visited the scene, removed the body, and placed it in the morgue at Ipe-Akoko General Hospital.
Security services working together successfully captured the victim’s alleged killer.
The PPRO said that Abayomi Peter Oladipo, the state commissioner of police, made an on-the-spot assessment of the conflict between the Fulani residents of the region and the Uba community by visiting the Uba/Eshimeri Akoko and Aduloju camp.
The farmer, Sunday Ayeni, 36, was killed on his farm in Uba Oka, Akoko South-West Local Government Area, which led to the altercation.
However, his attacker has not yet been apprehended. The indigenous people believed that he was killed by herdsmen because they were compelled to compensate the victim for the grazing rights of their cattle on his property.
To address the rising number of deaths in the local government area, however, traditional elders and community leaders have called emergency meetings.
Oba Victor Adetona Olasehinde, the Owa of Ogbagi Akoko and chairman of the Akoko Divisional Council of Obas, responded to the events by denouncing the killings and characterizing them as “callous, wicked, and unacceptable.”
The monarch claimed that the region’s vital role as a food basket has been put in jeopardy and that the unlawful actions of the herdsmen are already forcing farmers off their lands.
As a result, Oba Adetona demanded that the state’s administration and all of its security services act immediately.
