In Nigeria, each day has its own wahala:

Just when you need it most, the light goes out.
On a day when you’re already running late, traffic shows you pepper.
Prices suddenly increase.
It keeps buzzing on your phone.
Life continues to be difficult.

There are moments when it seems like everyone is yelling at you at once.
However, some people are still able to maintain their composure, continue to develop, and advance despite all of this chaos.
How? Concentrate.

Not because life is flawless, but rather because they’ve mastered the art of maintaining composure in the face of adversity.

Here’s how you can follow suit.

  •  Pay Attention to What You Can Control

Fuel shortages, unexpected bills, network glitches, and power outages are just a few of the unpredictable things that happen in Nigeria.
However, you have control over:

Your mindset

Your routines

Your time

Your responses

  • Prevent Information Overload in Your Mind

News updates, gossip, WhatsApp groups, social media—the buzz never stops.

Try allowing your mind to relax:

Avoid reaching for your phone as soon as you wake up.

Unfollow or mute pages that deplete your energy.

Cut back on your frequent news checking

Invest more time in reading or studying

Don’t let everything into your thoughts; it’s not a trash can.  You experience greater serenity and clarity when you cease worrying about things that are beyond your control.

  •  Give Up Comparing Yourself to Others

Social media will lead you to believe that everyone your age is wealthy, married, or “blowing,” with the exception of you.
But keep in mind:

People only share their best moments on social media.
No one shares their hardships or restless nights.
Your path is unique.
Your achievement has its own schedule.

Pay attention to your lane. It will be your time.

  • Be in the Company of the Correct People

It’s acceptable that not everyone around you wants you to develop.
Just remember to spend more time with those who:

Motivate you

Put yourself to the test

Motivate you

Say a prayer for you.

Encourage your aspirations

Your attention can be made or broken by your circle.

  •  Attend to Your Emotions and Thoughts

You are not a machine. Even phones require charging.

Spend some time doing:

Rest

Take a deep breath.

Stroll around

Write down your ideas in a journal.

Meditate or offer prayers.

When you feel overburdened, ask for assistance. Strong people also feel exhausted. It’s normal.

  •  Keep Your “Why” in Mind

When things are uncertain in life, your “why” is what keeps you afloat.

Perhaps it’s:

Family

A more promising future

Financial independence

Your goal

Respect for oneself

A desire you’re determined to pursue

Hold it close, whatever it is. Allow it to challenge you each day.

KNOW THIS

Nigeria can be noisy, harsh, and erratic.
However, you are more powerful than the background noise.
SO: Continue!
Continue to have faith!
Continue to show up!

Your narrative is still developing. And it will be a stunning one.
