The long-standing animosity between the two musicians was recently clarified by Seyi Shay. She claimed that their disagreement stemmed from a startling admission made by her former personal assistant.
Speaking on the OffAir Show, Seyi Shay said that until she reconnected with the former employee years later, she had no idea why her connection with Tiwa halted. “To be honest, I had no idea why Tiwa and I had stopped communicating,” she stated.
When Didi was still running my business, I employed a young woman as a personal assistant. After the salon experience, I relocated to London to raise my baby. At the club, I ran into a female I hadn’t seen in roughly seven years. We met for lunch after she messaged me on Instagram and said, “I saw what happened and I’m really sorry.” Your career will suffer greatly as a result, and I feel like I’m to blame.
The woman then admitted, according to Seyi, that she had dated Tiwa’s partner at the time without understanding the consequences.
“To sum up, I was completely unaware that the girl was romantically involved with my friend’s partner,” Seyi Shay said. “She told me everything.” I doubt she would have said any of that in jest, but it might have been genuine. Given how close she and Tiwa had once been, Seyi Shay was crushed by the revelation.
We were rolling and doing things together, so I was disgusted when she told me this. Tiwa obviously assumed I was aware of it. The outrage is understandable. It hurts so much. She acknowledged that she would have performed worse if it had been her.
The frank interview provides new context for one of the most well-known rivalries in Afrobeats, which reached its zenith in 2021 when they got into a notorious altercation at a Lagos salon.
