During Tuesday’s INEC Third Quarterly Meeting with Resident election Commissioners, which reviewed ongoing election activities, this decision was made.
The registration, which was initially scheduled to close today, will now be open until Sunday, October 12, 2025, according to a statement issued by INEC on Wednesday by Victoria Eta-Messi, Director, Voter Education and Publicity Department.
On September 5, 2025, ward-level voter registration opened. The Commission authorized a four-day extension of the current Ward-level CVR exercise in the FCT after the review.
As a result, the exercise that was initially planned to conclude today, Wednesday, October 8, 2025, will now last until Sunday, October 12, 2025.
As of October 7, 2025, the Federal Capital Territory had registered 55,346 new voter registrations, including 16,818 completed physical registrations and 38,528 online pre-registrations.
According to the commission, “this outstanding turnout highlights the increasing civic consciousness among residents and the efficacy of devolving the exercise to the grassroots.”
INEC reiterated that all pre-registrants must finish their registration in person at authorized centers, and that the internet pre-registration option is still suspended in the FCT. To allow all pre-registrants to finish their registration in person at the designated centers, the FCT’s online pre-registration option is still stopped, as previously indicated.
“This measure guarantees the authenticity of their records in compliance with the Electoral Act 2022’s provisions,” she continued.
All eligible citizens who have not yet registered were urged by the electoral commission to take advantage of the extended period. Additionally, it urged registered voters to use the extended period to move their registration into or inside the FCT.
Nonetheless, it cautioned against making more than one registration, calling it “a punishable offence under the law.”
The names and addresses of every registration center will continue to be available on INEC’s website and official social media accounts, the agency promised the public.
