Wike, a leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), endorsed Christopher Maikalangu, the current chairman of the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC), who just switched parties and is running for reelection for a second term.

Wike said the construction was a direct response to community demands during the land compensation process for the second runway at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport and a fulfillment of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He was speaking at the flag-off of a 7-kilometer road project with four-span bridges connecting Tunga Madaki to eight other settlements.

A people gave up their ancestral lands for a national project, such as a second runway, but they had no access route, not even to the airport for which they donated land. This was unfair. When I brought up the issue with Mr. President, he advised me to give them anything they requested. We’re here now to keep that pledge,” he declared.

The FCT Minister declared that the Tunga Madaki project will be carried out by the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) and will be finished and put into service in June 2026, which will also be Tinubu’s third anniversary in power.

In order to guarantee a joint celebration for the road’s opening in June, the community was urged to support Maikalangu in the upcoming election and to urge the APC to thank them for their tenacious advocacy of the project. Tunga Madaki, a former council chairman, has been praised for his contributions to the development of underdeveloped villages and the connection to the airport via Bill Clinton Drive. The new route aims to open up nine villages and provide essential connectivity to the airport.
