What started as a joke on Instagram has quickly turned into a public controversy for Nollywood star Regina Daniels.

This morning, Regina shared a prank video of her husband: Nigerian senator and businessman Ned Nwoko and the internet wasn’t amused. The short clip, filmed secretly in a bathroom, showed Nwoko walking in just as Daniels cued a soundtrack with lyrics like: “Husband is useless… kill your husband make your life better.”

The senator’s irritated reaction was caught on camera before Daniels blocked the view. She captioned it playfully: “Not me planning to make a video that will piss off my oga at the top only for him to be the main character. How I wan take settle this one now? Me I sha post my thing.”

But the internet wasn’t laughing. Critics said the prank went too far, pointing out the violent undertones of the song and Nwoko’s position as a sitting senator.

Another quipped: “Sooner or later… a man regrets marrying for aesthetics.”

A lot of people were particularly concerned about his private parts in view, however, brushed it off as the couple’s usual playful banter. Daniels and Nwoko have often shared glimpses of their private life online, mixing humor with affection.

Surprisingly, Nwoko himself seemed unbothered. He commented under the post: “This wife of my old as I call her. Come here.”

Daniels also pushed back against the criticism, insisting the prank was all in fun. In response to one user, she wrote: “A senator that’s my husband behind closed doors! That’s not hard to digest abi.”

Regina, 25, and Nwoko, 64, married in 2019. Their relationship has long been a talking point in Nigeria, partly because of their nearly 40-year age gap and Nwoko’s public status. Together, they have two children.

This latest episode highlights the delicate balance between celebrity culture and political respectability in Nigeria, where social media doesn’t just entertain, it polices how public figures, and their families, behave.
