The West Africa Health Organization is in charge of organizing the four-day conference.
“Beyond borders: Strengthening Regional Cooperation to combat Lassa Fever and Emerging Infectious Diseases” is the conference’s subject.

This second Lassa International Conference will build on the previous one, which took place in Abuja in 2019 and included research presentations, seminars, panels, and plenary sessions.

Additionally, it will support a regional strategy aimed at enhancing access to coordinated disease control initiatives, vaccinations, and diagnostics.

The LIC 2025 aims to foster multisectoral cooperation and advance sustainable solutions for Lassa fever and other issues related to health security.

In order to improve preparation, boost research, and fortify epidemic response throughout West Africa, the conference brings together regional and international stakeholders.

The inaugural conference, which took place in Abuja in 2019, commemorated fifty years since the Lassa fever virus was initially discovered in a Nigerian community, according to the News Agency of Nigeria.

Researchers and practitioners from all over the globe are gathering to discuss and evaluate international efforts to manage the Lassa fever viral epidemic, taking use of the opportunity provided by the “anniversary” of the virus’s discovery.

Because of the interdependence of these elements, attendees at that meeting emphasized the significance of combining human, animal, and environmental health views for a complete approach to combating Lassa virus.

In order to improve preventive, response, and control efforts, there were strong requests for more research into all facets of Lassa fever, including novel diagnostics, treatments, and vaccinations.

Among other things, participants emphasized the necessity of improved laboratory capabilities and monitoring systems for prompt and precise Lassa fever diagnosis.
