This was revealed in a statement released on Friday by Isa Sanusi, the Country Director.
“The Nigerian authorities ought to conduct an unbiased and efficient investigation into these incidents and guarantee that security personnel who are suspected of being accountable for the purportedly lethal use of force are given a fair trial,” he declared.
The group reported that the killings took place in Maiduguri, where four people were slain, Kaduna, where three people were killed, and Suleja, Niger State, where six people were killed and scores were seriously injured.
Amnesty International has voiced worry about the “relentless repression of the right to freedom of peaceful assembly” and the “growing hostility to dissent” shown by the Nigerian authorities.
As they dealt with groups of people protesting extreme poverty and hunger, security forces at the sites where lives were lost consciously employed killing techniques, according to the statement.
In order to address the effects of recent reforms on economic, social, and cultural rights—including people’s rights to health and education—the organization urged the Nigerian government to take decisive action.
“Everyone who was detained for participating in the demonstrations needs to be freed right away and without conditions. The government must also put an end to the widespread abuses of peoples’ rights to free speech and peaceful assembly, Sanusi continued.
In response to the accusation, the Niger State Police Command recognized the mayhem that occurred in the Tafa Local Government Council Secretariat in a report released and made public by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, Wasiu Abiodun, on Thursday.
Throughout the state where criminals destroyed and burned cars while looting, vandalizing, and partially setting the structure on fire; security personnel arrived, apprehended, and scattered the thugs.
Abiodun claims that no one was killed and that no reports of protesters being dispersed with minimal force existed during the process. It should be noted, however, that some miscreants suffered minor injuries during the stampede and that the majority of them were transported to various nearby medical facilities for treatment.
