A 911 truck carrying bags of sachet water from Enugu to Abakaliki and a commercial bus carrying passengers from Benue to Onitsha were both involved in the collision.
Goddy Ogba, an eyewitness, claimed that the truck carrying the water bags had failed its brakes, causing the tragedy, which claimed several lives.

He blames the police checkpoint and road blockage for the collision and demands that the checkpoint be taken down for the sake of everyone using the road.

“The crash, which resulted in multiple fatalities and numerous injuries, has brought attention to the risks connected to the Ishieke Police checkpoint once more.

The route was blocked by police officers stationed at the location during the night, creating dangerous conditions that led to the fatal event.

This regrettable incident contributes to the increasing number of accidents that have been reported in the Ishieke axis, where checkpoint police’ similar tactics have put drivers in danger on numerous occasions.

“With improved traffic management and enforcement practices, all of this could have been prevented, and now families are grieving and survivors are fighting for their lives,” he said.

According to SP Joshua Ukandu, the State Police Public Relations Officer, the accident claimed the lives of just two people. He clarified that the injured were brought to the hospital for treatment.
