The Nigerian military has revealed that two senior Boko Haram commanders and eleven other terrorists were killed during counterinsurgency operations in Borno State, dealing a severe blow to rebel forces in northeastern Nigeria. The operation was conducted in the Wulgo community, a tense region near Nigeria’s border with Cameroon, on August 21 and 22.

The operation specifically targeted Abu Fatima, the “Munzir of Koloram,” and Abu Nazir, who was referred to as the “Munzir of Juye” within the gang.  Both were in charge of organizing multiple cross-border strikes in recent months and were thought to be spearheading regional insurgency activities.  At Wulgo Axis, they were defeated in a bloody gunfight.

According to the military, soldiers found a cache of weapons at the location, including six motorcycles that the militants used to move across difficult terrain, a number of AK-47 rifles, and a significant amount of ammo.

Despite overwhelming obstacles, the military high command praised the troops for the successful operation and urged them to maintain the momentum in the continuing counter-insurgency fight.
