Hours after his detention at Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport, investigative journalist Adejuwon Soyinka was set free by the Department of State Services (DSS).

As Soyinka, the regional editor of The Conversation Africa, arrived at the Lagos airport from the United Kingdom on Sunday, August 25, 2024, at five in the morning, she was escorted to the DSS office in Ikoyi.

The former BBC Pidgin Editor’s release to Channels Television was confirmed by a close source.

However, the source claimed that Soyinka’s travel passport was taken by the secret police.

It was unclear why Soyinka had been arrested. Earlier, DSS spokesman Peter Afunanya declared he was unaware of the situation.
