According to reports, Wale Adedayo, the former chairman of the Ijebu East Local Government Area, wrote a petition that led to their invitation.
Adedayo had charged in August of last year that Governor Dapo Abiodun had embezzled over N10.8 billion intended for the state’s twenty local governments.
Speaking with our correspondent under anonymity out of concern for retaliation, a senior government official stated, “It is true that the EFCC invited some state government officials on Tuesday. I’ve discovered it has to do with state government finances, but I’m not sure which ones.
Ex-LG chairman Adedayo accused Governor Abiodun of misappropriating over N10.8 billion intended for the development of the council areas in what was purported to be a private letter sent to Chief Olusegun Osoba, a former governor of the state, in August of last year.
But the letter made its way into the media and became a topic of conversation.
Adedayo had also sent the EFCC a petition requesting that the state government be looked into for the purported financial violation.
The state administration refuted the claim, stating that it actually increased the monthly funding provided to local governments by the federal government, as many would otherwise have been unable to meet their basic needs, including paying workers.
Adedayo was impeached later on for his publicized accusations against the state government, and he is currently on trial in an Abeokuta magistrate court for making false accusations and defaming Governor Abiodun’s reputation.
Adedayo told our correspondent on Wednesday that he had learned that the EFCC had invited certain state authorities to discuss the issue.
