According to Nwachukwu, the military got a distress call reporting that a bunch of thugs had congregated in the Zaria neighborhood of Samaru, setting fire to tires on the road and throwing stones at security guards.

He said that the state government’s curfew was being enforced and that the army had mobilized right away to arrive on the area and disperse the crowd.

“A soldier fired a warning shot to scare away the hoodlums who were attempting to attack the troops when they arrived at the site. Sadly, this resulted in the death of a 16-year-old lad named Ismail Mohammed.

“As of the time of this report, the involved soldier has been arrested and is being questioned,” he stated.

According to Nwachukwu, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), expressed regret over the regrettable event.

He claimed that the General Officer Commanding 1 Division, Maj.-Gen. Lander Saraso, headed a high-level team from the COAS that paid the deceased’s family a visit and expressed condolences.

He claimed that the corpse was buried in accordance with Islamic customs, with senior Nigerian army military officers present. (NAN)
