In a statement, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, said that the gang abducted a person living in Babaram Muktum, a Fulani community in Gujba LGA, and demanded N1.6 million in ransom.

“As the command recorded another major success in dislodging a kidnapping syndicate, Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, has directed personnel to intensify efforts to hunt down and arrest criminal elements in their enclaves,” the statement stated.

Usmanu Garba, 30, of Katarko Village, Gujba LGA, was detained by detectives from the State Intelligent Department (SID) on July 5, 2024, at approximately 13:00 hours, when he was traveling to spend his portion of the earnings from a kidnapping operation.

The suspect is a part of a group that operates in Gujba and nearby areas and specializes in violent robberies, kidnappings, and livestock rustling.

“The group was behind the recent abduction that took place in Babaram Muktum, a Fulani community in Gujba LGA. They abducted a local and demanded a ransom of N1.6 million.”

Before releasing the victim, they also stole his father’s Techno phone. The command is working harder to capture other fugitives who belong to the syndicate.

“As the investigation progresses, the suspect continues to confess to the crime and is assisting detectives.”

“The public is urged to exercise caution and report any suspicious movements, activities, or incidents by the Commissioner of Police. Additionally, he counsels the populace to keep their private matters private and refrain from disclosing or displaying their wealth in public.

“If a crime is reported, the command guarantees that it will not go unpunished. Always notify the closest authorities of any suspicious activity.
