This appointment comes after the retirement of the former Commissioner, AIG Ikioye Orutugu, who has advanced to the rank of Assistant Inspector-General of Police.

Prior to his current role, CP Ama served as the Commissioner of Police for Intelligence and Training at the Force Intelligence Department in Abuja, where he also held the position of Deputy Commissioner of Police. His extensive experience spans over thirty years within the Nigeria Police Force, marked by roles in intelligence, criminal investigation, tactical operations, and public relations.

CP Ama, hailing from Ekata in Edda Local Government Area of Ebonyi State, holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Jos. His career began as a Cadet Superintendent of Police after training at the Police Academy in Wudil, Kano State. His strategic positions have included Deputy Commissioner of Police in General Investigation at the Force Criminal Investigation Department in Abuja, Area Commander in Nnewi, and various levels of command in mobile police forces across Nigeria.

The new Commissioner has undergone various professional training programs, including a Policy, Strategy and Leadership Course at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) and other operational courses in collaboration with international military and law enforcement agencies. His professional achievements have been recognized with several awards, notably a Commendation Award for bravery during a shootout with armed robbers in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, in 2007.

In his inaugural message, CP Ama expressed a firm commitment to fortifying the existing security gains in Anambra and emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Police, various security agencies, traditional institutions, and community stakeholders. He reassured the public of the Anambra State Police Command’s dedication to safeguarding lives and property, combating crime, and ensuring a secure environment for all residents, visitors, and local businesses.
