The Federal Government released a N180 billion palliative package to states to lessen the impact of the elimination of gasoline subsidies, but the organised labour has criticised the move.

The Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress warned that the governors could not be trusted, pointing out that the N5 billion in largesse granted to each state government for distribution to the populace would enrich politicians rather than the impoverished.

As part of measures to ease the pain of the subsidy reduction, the Federal Government on Thursday announced a N5 billion palliative for each state of the federation and 180 trucks of rice.
