She mentioned the National Youth Service Corps as one of the programs, saying that his husband highly values the efforts made by young Nigerians to nation-building through the NYSC. At the launch of medical outreach programs under the NYSC Health Initiative for Rural Dwellers, which was organized to honor the program’s 50th anniversary, the first lady made this announcement.
She also urged Nigerians to support corps members’ initiatives so they can keep having a significant positive impact on the community and rural residents.
“Mr. President has a strong commitment to the NYSC. His belief in a single Nigeria and genuine appreciation for the accomplishments of these young men and women are what motivate him to support the Scheme. To this end, the First Family often hosts presidential receptions during Sallah celebrations for corps members stationed in Daura, Katsina State.
“While I join millions of Nigerians in celebrating the 50th anniversary of the NYSC, I call on the management of the program and the corps members to keep up their efforts to promote national unity by delivering quality services to the Nation, regardless of State or place of service.”I have watched with great delight as the Scheme has made enormous progress in the area of healthcare.
She continued, “The HIRD program’s launch has, for the most part, been effective. The donation of a fully-stocked mobile clinic to the Scheme as a token of my Office’s thanks would help the Corps Medical team succeed. This facility would undoubtedly continue to help in this regard.
“I am hopeful that the celebration of NYSC’s 50 years of operation, along with the launch of the HIRD outreach, will further validate the case for the Scheme’s continued relevance.”
Brig Gen Yusha’u Ahmed, the director-general of NYSC, stated in his speech that NYSC had contributed to Nigeria’s progress.

While Nigeria’s health sector confronts issues similar to those in other developing nations, concerted efforts are being undertaken by different stakeholders, including the NYSC, to improve the system.
