Compared to the 60.26 percent recorded in the 2025 exam, when 818,492 applicants earned five credits or more, including English and Mathematics, the statistic shows a 2.64 percentage-point decrease.
63 days after the final exam paper was written, NECO Registrar Prof. Dantani Wushishi delivered the results at a press conference in Minna, Niger State, on Thursday.
According to Wushishi, 1,371,992 students ultimately took the exam, which ran from June 15 to July 23, 2026, out of 1,378,048 candidates who registered for it.

Regardless of their achievement in math and English language, he revealed that 1,162,118 candidates, or 84.70 percent, received five credits or more. He claims that there was a notable decrease in exam malpractice in the 2026 exam.

According to him, there were 1,406 candidates implicated in documented incidences of malpractice, which is a 64.74 percent decrease from the 3,878 candidates reported in 2025.

Wushishi ascribed the decrease to the council’s actions to improve the examination’s administration and oversight. He praised security organisations for their watchfulness, presence, and assistance throughout the exercise, especially the Department of State Services (DSS) and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

He said that the agencies assisted in upholding discipline, discouraging misconduct, and safeguarding the exam’s integrity.

The registrar also expressed gratitude to Minister of Education Tunji Alausa for his faith in his leadership and to President Bola Tinubu for reappointing him for a second term. Candidates, parents, schools, and other stakeholders were reassured by Wushishi that NECO will stick to its mission and maintain the integrity of its exams.
