After missing a train on the Elizabeth line from Ilford to Stratford, Jamgbadi allegedly lost his cool and started kicking an advertising frame at the station.
Ortega was one of three railway employees who approached Jamgbadi and attempted to soothe him, according to testimony given to the Inner London Crown Court.
Ortega was withdrawing when Jamgbadi reportedly punched him once in the face, causing him to fall and strike his head on the platform, prosecutor Patrick Dennis told the court.

After the event, Ortega was brought to the hospital, but two days later, on December 6, 2024, he passed away from his wounds.
Jamgbadi, an Ilford resident of Kingston Road, is accused of murder.

However, due to his mental illness and hospital treatment, Judge Benedict Kelleher informed the jury that Jamgbadi is unfit to enter a plea or stand trial. Therefore, the jury has been asked to decide whether Jamgbadi committed the conduct that killed Ortega.

The incident happened on December 4, 2024, at approximately 8:45 p.m., the court heard.

Dennis claimed that before Jamgbadi started kicking an advertising frame, CCTV footage showed him missing a train that was travelling into Stratford.

According to the Sun UK, the prosecution told the court, “Mr. Ortega and two other staff members came out of the office and they effectively tried to calm Mr. Jamgbadi down.” Dennis claimed that Jamgbadi hit Ortega in the face as he retreated. Ortega was rendered unconscious as he fell onto the platform and struck his head due to the force.

Ortega was transported to the hospital when an ambulance was summoned, but he passed away 48 hours later. The court was also informed that Jamgbadi was taken into custody after the incident.
He said to British Transport Police officers, “I punched him in the face, I literally punched him in the face,” according to the prosecution.

“What are you going to do about it, are you going to nick me?” he allegedly asked the cops after that.

At first, Jamgbadi was accused of causing serious bodily harm. After Ortega’s passing, the charge was subsequently raised to murder.
