Dan Shagamu was killed at his home in Gaida Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, Kano State, on Monday nite. Obi made the call in a statement posted on his X account on Friday, denouncing the killing and pleading with the Kano State Government and security agencies to make sure that those responsible are brought to justice.

Two suspects have been detained in relation to the incident, according to the Kano State Police Command. The attack happened around 11:30 p.m. after the Vigilante Group Commander in Gaida reported that unidentified thugs had broken into Dan Shagamu’s home and attacked him with sharp objects. Police officers from the Kumbotso Division responded and transported him to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano, where a doctor confirmed his death.

According to the command, forensic investigations were underway to determine the attack’s circumstances and motivation while the suspects were being held and questioned.

Obi responded to the murder by saying that criticism or disagreements shouldn’t be used as an excuse for violence. “Ibrahim Khalil Dan Shagamu, a social media pundit, was killed in his Kano house, and I am extremely disturbed by this.

“The taking of a human life can never be justified by disagreement, criticism, or neighbourhood conflict.”

Obi stated, “Those who speak up, express their opinions, or hold different views must not be made to live in fear.”

He called for a “thorough, transparent, and impartial investigation” into the occurrence by the Kano State Government and pertinent security agencies. Obi emphasised that the Nigerian Constitution guarantyd the right to free speech and advocated for the prosecution of all those involved in the murder.

He prayed for Dan Shagamu’s soul’s rest and sent his condolences to his friends, family, coworkers, and fans.

Residents had previously received assurances from the police that the inquiry would be carried out to its logical conclusion and that the suspects would face charges following the probe.
