This comes despite the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) indicating that it is finalizing its campaign structures and plans. APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, clarified that while the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially set August 19 as the beginning of campaign activities, it does not necessitate immediate rallies, allowing the party to prepare thoroughly with stakeholders before launching its campaign.
Utilizing the legal start of the campaign period, HAI announced a multifaceted grassroots strategy spearheaded by its Director of Press and Communications, Ernest Omoarelojie. The campaign will leverage both traditional and digital media, emphasizing street-level mobilization. HAI’s endorsement of Tinubu’s second-term candidacy is based on his administration’s structural reforms that are deemed foundational for Nigeria’s long-term economic stability. These reforms include actions in the petroleum sector that resolved fuel shortages, enhancements in foreign exchange stability and reserves, local government autonomy, police reforms, and the establishment of the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), as well as substantial investments in road infrastructure.
While acknowledging that these reforms might pose short-term difficulties, HAI argues they are essential for achieving a more sustainable and well-governed Nigeria. The group outlined its campaign efforts’ components, which will commence on August 19 with the deployment of around 40 mascots in key locations across Abuja to generate visual impact. The initiative also features a city-wide SMS campaign to directly communicate with residents, paired with a catchy campaign jingle. To enhance grassroots engagement, HAI intends to utilize radio to present government policies and achievements in an accessible format, marking the beginning of an intensive campaign designed to build momentum as the electoral cycle progresses towards 2027.
