The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) announced the successful upload of a placeholder presidential candidate on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) portal in preparation for the 2027 general elections, adhering to electoral guidelines. This action follows the restoration of the party’s original logo on the INEC portal, symbolized by a “Basket of Fruits on Nigerian Map,” which NNPP described as a pivotal victory in their ongoing leadership crisis.
The leadership dispute within the NNPP has involved competing factions claiming authority over the party, which has impacted its branding and operational integrity. Dr. Major Agbo, the party’s National Chairman, expressed satisfaction over the reinstatement of their legitimate logo, asserting it enhances the party’s credibility and serves as a warning to those trying to undermine it. He highlighted that the INEC portal now reflects the party’s original emblem, having replaced what he termed a “fake” logo, reaffirming the legal standing of the National Working Committee under his leadership.
In addition to the presidential candidate, the NNPP has also uploaded 355 National Assembly candidates across all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, completing this despite challenges related to the late recognition of its leadership. Agbo noted the significance of this achievement, labeling it historic and emphasizing the need for a robust political platform to effect national renewal.
He declined to reveal the identity of the placeholder presidential candidate, indicating this was a strategic decision. Furthermore, Agbo announced that preparations for governorship and State House of Assembly candidates have begun, with completion expected before the party’s self-imposed August 8, 2026 deadline. He framed these developments not merely as administrative but as crucial steps to fortify the NNPP’s structure, expand its membership base, and prepare for effective leadership. As the NNPP gears up for the 2027 elections, Agbo called on all Nigerians, especially youth and professionals, to join the party in its mission for a renewed Nigeria.
