In a statement, the director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margaret Adeseye, confirmed the incident.
According to Adeseye, emergency personnel from the Ijegun-Egba Fire Station were sent to the scene at Old Ojo Road, close to the Alakija Bus Stop, as soon as the service received a distress call at 11:37 a.m.
According to her, the search and rescue operations started when the rescue team arrived at approximately 11:49 a.m.

She claimed that the building that collapsed was an occupied residential structure with several occupants.

According to Adeseye, “ten people have been rescued alive with varying degrees of injuries and have been turned over to medical personnel for necessary treatment.”  In order to determine whether more victims were still buried beneath the debris, she stated that rescue efforts were still in progress.

According to Adeseye, the operation involved members of the Nigerian Red Cross Society, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Federal Fire Service, Nigeria Police Force, Nigerian Navy, and Lagos Neighbourhood Safety Corps.

She continued by saying that while investigations were underway, the cause of the collapse had not yet been identified.

The director of the fire department urged people to give emergency personnel unrestricted access to the scene and reassured locals that more updates would be given as rescue operations advanced.
