The victim, identified as Michael Oyedokun, was allegedly beheaded by the kidnappers in a disturbing video said to have surfaced on Sunday.

The footage, which circulated on Telegram and was seen on Monday, showed the teacher tied up and compelled to speak before he was brutally murdered.

The shocking incident has deepened fears over the fate of the remaining captives and sparked renewed outrage among residents of the community.

Families of the abducted victims, community leaders, and concerned residents have continued to urge security agencies and the Oyo State Government to intensify efforts toward rescuing those still being held captive.

Reacting to the development, the Special Adviser on Media to Governor Seyi Makinde, Dr. Suleimon Olanrewaju, confirmed the killing in a statement released on Monday.

According to him, Governor Makinde expressed sympathy to the family of the deceased teacher and assured the public that both military and non-military strategies were being deployed to secure the release of the remaining victims.

Olanrewaju also disclosed that around six suspects connected to the abduction had already been arrested.

He further sympathised with the families of security operatives, including soldiers, members of the Amotekun Corps, and local vigilantes, who lost their lives during rescue attempts.

The statement explained that the operatives were killed after encountering Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) allegedly planted by the kidnappers.

He added that injured security personnel are currently receiving treatment and responding well, while the state government remains committed to covering their medical expenses.

Appealing for calm, Olanrewaju urged relatives of the abducted victims, religious groups, and members of the public to remain patient as rescue operations continue.

He said, “At the moment, we know that seven teachers were abducted, and sadly, a video emerged this morning confirming that one of them, said to be the mathematics teacher, was murdered by the terrorists.”

The governor’s aide further stated that security agencies had recorded some progress in the investigation, with multiple suspects apprehended.

“Based on information from the Commissioner of Police, about six persons have been arrested within the area. Some are believed to be informants or individuals providing logistical support to the terrorists.

“In addition, another security outfit operating in the state arrested three more persons of interest,” he added.

Naija Street Matters gathered that the gunmen stormed the school on Friday, May 15, abducting the principal, several teachers, and some students.

The attack came only weeks after an attempted kidnapping along the Ibadan-Ijebu road reportedly claimed the life of a traveller, further heightening concerns over worsening insecurity in parts of Oyo State and across the country.
