The Edo State Police Command has successfully rescued nine individuals from two separate kidnapping incidents, as announced by spokesperson Eno Ikoedem. Five victims were rescued following an abduction involving a GUO transport bus along the Benin-Lagos Expressway, while four others were freed from captivity in the Imiegba forest located in Agenebode, Edo North.
In a statement detailing the operations, the police credited a rapid and substantial deployment of tactical teams, intelligence resources, and aerial surveillance, coordinated by Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, as instrumental in the successful rescue of the victims. The police highlighted that these efforts included coordinated bush-combing operations and strategic area dominance exerted pressure on the kidnappers, leading to the eventual safe recovery of all five victims, who have since received medical evaluation and reunited with their families.
Furthermore, the police reported the successful rescue of four additional individuals abducted earlier in the month from the Imiegba forest. Similar medical attention has been provided to these victims, affirming their safety. This brings the total number of rescued individuals to nine.
The command reassured the public that security measures along the Benin-Lagos Expressway and surrounding communities have been significantly enhanced, with all tactical, intelligence, and operational assets activated in the area.
