As part of its 2026 promotion effort, the Lagos State Government implemented a new formal assessment procedure for senior officials in parastatal organizations, which represents a substantial change in the way career advancement is decided in that area of the public service.
Officers on Grade Levels 12–16 in parastatal organizations must complete written exams and computer-based tests as part of the newly established Structured Evaluation Assessment Programme before they may be considered for promotion.
According to the announcement, “the Structured Evaluation Assessment Programme, which is being introduced, includes written examinations and computer-based tests and marks the first formal assessment for officers on Grade Levels 12–16 as part of promotion requirements.”
According to the state government, the program is consistent with its dedication to a merit-driven public service, where career advancement is based on performance, competence, and capacity growth rather than just years of service.
Currently, 388 officers are being evaluated at the Women Development Center in Agege and the Public Service Staff Development Center in Magodo.
SEAP is essential to the government’s larger workforce strategy, according to Afolabi Ayantayo, Commissioner for Establishments and Training, who oversaw the exercise.
He encouraged participants to embrace the process with commitment and a strong sense of duty, according to the statement.
Olubusola Abidakun, the ministry’s permanent secretary, who was also present during the monitoring, expressed satisfaction with the organization’s and participants’ degree of readiness at the assessment centers.
The statement went on, “She reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to sustaining reforms that enhance productivity in the public service.”
Starting on Tuesday, the evaluation will continue throughout the week and into the next.
