Lagos was alive over the weekend as the premiere of Oversabi Aunty brought together filmmakers, actors, influencers, and cinema lovers for a night full of laughter, culture, and celebration.
Produced and directed by Toyin Abraham, one of Nollywood’s brightest stars, the film shines a light on a familiar Nigerian archetype: the “oversabi” aunt who always thinks she knows best. With its mix of sharp comedy and relatable family moments, the movie had audiences laughing, nodding, and reflecting in equal measure.
It’s important to note that the term “Oversabi Aunty” was coined by Nigerians who thought Toyin Abraham was being overzealous during Priscilla Ojo’s wedding to Juma Jux.
Iyabo Ojo came through with her entire family including Festus, Priscilla, and her son- in- law, Juma Jux.
The red carpet was buzzing. Stars including Mike Ezuruonye, Efe Irele, Jemima Osunde, Adesua Etomi – Wellington, Tana Adelana and even Queen Nwokoye, mingled with guests, posing for photos and sharing smiles, while the Naija Street Matters team captured every highlight, from stunning fashion choices to candid behind-the-scenes moments.
Beyond the humour, the premiere was a showcase of Nigerian creativity and storytelling. Guests brought a lively mix of traditional and contemporary fashion, and the energy in the room reflected Nollywood’s growing influence as both an entertainment and cultural powerhouse. NSM was there to ensure readers got the full experience : the glamour, the reactions, and the moments that made the evening memorable.
Distributed nationwide by FilmOne Entertainment, Oversabi Aunty is poised to reach audiences hungry for authentic Nigerian stories told with craft, wit, and heart. Toyin Abraham’s vision, combined with a talented ensemble cast, ensures the film will remain a standout in this year’s Nollywood calendar.
